Metaverse Learning recently took part in a webinar organised by Ascentis, a market-leading Awarding Organisation for ESOL qualifications. The webinar focused on the importance of providing engaging and personalised learning experiences to support non-native English speakers to develop written and spoken language proficiency. The panel included:
Below is a summary of the key takeaways from the webinar session.
The importance of the English language in an interconnected, globalised world
English is the most spoken language in the world, with over 1.5 billion speakers. In an increasingly interconnected and globalised world, the ability to communicate effectively in English has become a vital skill. For many non-native English speakers, the journey towards mastering the language involves engaging with resources and experiences that go beyond traditional learning methods.
Interactive and personalised English language learning experiences
Alex Houghton discussed how Ascentis’s ESOL (English for Speakers of Other Languages) qualifications aim to bring together learners, educators, and language enthusiasts for an immersive, interactive, and crucially a personalised learning experience. Whether you’re a beginner looking to build foundational language skills or an advanced learner aiming for fluency, Ascentis’s ESOL qualifications can cater to a range of proficiency levels. This flexibility ensures that participants receive instruction that aligns with their individual needs and goals.
New immersive learning programs for Ascentis’s ESOL qualifications from Metaverse Learning can help to tailor the learning experience to an individual’s specific needs even more through ongoing formative assessment. The tutor can view assessment data within the immersive learning program to identify gaps in knowledge and use these insights to make effective interventions that drive learner attainment and outcomes.
A comprehensive curriculum that prepares learners for the real-world
Ascentis’s ESOL qualifications encompass a comprehensive curriculum that covers various aspects of language acquisition, from grammar and vocabulary to practical communication skills. Learners can expect a well-rounded education that prepares them for real-life scenarios and interactions. One of the standout features of the Ascentis ESOL program is its alignment with industry standards. Learners can earn qualifications that are not only a testament to their language proficiency but are also recognised and valued in professional settings.
Immersive English language learning through virtual reality and virtual environments
James Pallister introduced Metaverse Learning’s new virtual program that enhances Ascentis’s ESOL qualification delivery by incorporating language learning into realistic virtual scenarios. Through a range of different simulations, learners can practice and apply their English language skills in real-life contexts, fostering a deeper understanding, language acquisition and fluency. Learners can now have access to a dynamic and effective digital platform that not only equips them with essential English language skills but also engages and inspires them on their educational journey and supports them to fulfil their academic potential.
The impact of extended reality
James Pallister further discussed additional facts and figures around extended reality, highlighting its positive impact in an education and training context. In virtual environments, training time and knowledge and skills absorption is four times faster than in a traditional classroom, making it more effective. Learner engagement is 1.5 times better in a virtual classroom, and learners report 80% more confidence in their subject matter compared to a real-life classroom setting. According to a PWC study, a significant 91% of learners prefer virtual classrooms.
The combination of Ascentis’ new ESOL qualifications and Metaverse Learning’s innovative virtual ESOL programs is a powerful tool for English language learners. Ascentis offers personalised and comprehensive education, and Metaverse Learning adds immersive and interactive tools, with valuable formative assessments, creating a well-rounded and impactful English language learning experience.
